FAQ
How long are the residency sessions, and what are the deadlines?
-
CARR's regular session spans three months, with priority given to artists who can commit fully, though we welcome artists for one to less than three months stays as well. Our program starts May 1st, with applications due by April 7th. While CARR provides a vibrant mix of private/shared living and studio spaces, 24/7 access, and opportunities for significant exposure through two group exhibitions, short-term stays may not guarantee participation in all exhibitions without an additional fee. We occasionally make exceptions for short-term artists, but it's not guaranteed. This dynamic environment nurtures creativity and connects artists to New York's bustling art scene, offering a pathway for potential career advancements.
What does the residency fee cover?
-
The monthly residency fee at CARR ranges from $1550 to $3500, encompassing a choice of private or shared accommodation, workspace, and optional access to open studios. This fee also includes showcasing your work in two group exhibitions: one at our studio's common area, temporarily named Yoonion Art Space, in Brooklyn, NY, and the other at the prestigious MORA Museum of International Art in Jersey City, NJ. As an artist-run initiative, this comprehensive fee ensures we provide all resident artists a fair, nurturing, and creative environment.
Can I opt for accommodation without using the studio space?
-
Our residency program is designed for artists to fully immerse in both living and creative processes, hence requiring engagement with both accommodation and studio spaces. This policy supports our mission to encourage artists to immerse themselves fully in their creative process and the residency community.
What are the residency expenses?
-
The monthly residency fee at CARR, ranging from $1550 to $3500, provides artists with both private and shared living spaces, workspaces, and the option to participate in open studios. With four sessions offered each year, artists have the opportunity to showcase their work in two group exhibitions per session: one at the esteemed MORA Museum of International Art in Jersey City, NJ, and the other in our Brooklyn, NY studio's shared space, temporarily named Yoonion Art Space. This pricing model is a testament to CARR's dedication to enriching artists' experiences in NY, offering a well-rounded and creatively fulfilling residency.
What is the refund policy if I need to cancel my residency?
-
If you need to cancel your residency, CARR has a tiered refund policy: cancellations made 60 days before the start are eligible for a full refund, those within 30 days can receive a 70% refund, and for cancellations less than a month before, a 50% refund is available. This policy ensures we manage our limited spaces efficiently and extend opportunities to other artists as well.
